Native LTE Calling solution for Android handsets
The Sonus Mobile Client enables a native LTE and Wi-Fi Calling experience on Android devices. Using the Mobile Client, broadband operators and Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) can quickly deploy a cost effective wireless voice service, and Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) can reduce high cost domestic and international roaming rates.
LTE Calling is an extension of the Wi-Fi Calling Client solution and adds support for packetized voice and messaging, not only over Wi-Fi, but also over an LTE or High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) data channel. When LTE Calling is used, it’s always used in conjunction with Wi-Fi Calling. Sonus’ Wi-Fi and LTE Calling Mobile Client provides operators with three access options for transporting voice, messaging and data – Wi-Fi, LTE/HSPA data channel and 2G/3G (optional).
With the Sonus Mobile Client, subscribers receive a true, native Wi-Fi and LTE calling user experience. Once installed, the Mobile Client operates in the background, like a standard phone application, and subscribers can continue to make and receive calls using the phone’s regular dialer, contact book, call log, or any third party application that initiates mobile calls.
Since the Client can be downloaded as a standard application on the Google Play Store, it adds Wi-Fi and LTE Calling capability to an operator’s current in-network installed base of Android phones, whether those phones were purchased directly from the operator, or through non-operator channels (i.e. open market devices). In addition, operators can preload the Client onto handsets as part of their standard distribution process, enabling a true “out-of-the-box” experience.
For broadband operators and MVNOs who are paying for cellular voice minutes and messages, the use of Wi-Fi and LTE Calling enables adoption of a more profitable cost model because the use of high cost cellular circuit-switched voice is minimized. For MNOs who are paying high roaming costs when their subscribers roam domestically or internationally, the use of Wi-Fi and LTE Calling enables adoption of a more profitable cost model because the use of high cost cellular circuit-switched voice for roaming is minimized.

Note: LTE Calling is different from VoLTE. LTE Calling/VoDC voice call packets are treated as best effort data packets, whereas with VoLTE, voice call packets are prioritized over best effort data packets.
