Microsoft Lync

Microsoft Lync

Whether inside or outside the four walls of the enterprise, Microsoft Lync enables users to communicate securely and stay connected with colleagues and customers, from virtually wherever they choose. Millions of people, their communications and the applications they use every day are connected – together – using Lync, so it’s no surprise that more and more enterprises are considering Microsoft Lync as a platform for Unified Communications and enterprise voice.

Session border controllers (SBCs) serve a critical role in enabling and activating Microsoft Lync within enterprise Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) networks. Integrating Sonus SBCs into Lync deployments helps enterprises' Unified Communications (UC) vision become a reality. These powerful network devices protect, secure, simplify and standardize real-time, SIP-based multimedia communications, including voice over IP (VoIP) and video. As enterprises increasingly utilize Microsoft Lync in mission-critical applications, the survivable branch application (SBA) of the Sonus SBC 1000 and SBC 2000 Session Border Controllers ensures that intra-branch communications and business-continuity are maintained - either through a 3G/4G or PSTN connection – if the wide area network (WAN) fails. Sonus is the only vendor in the industry to deliver enhanced SBA capability with 3G/4G failover capability.

As a Microsoft Gold Communications Partner, Sonus understands the unique interoperability, security and scalability requirements for successful adoption of Lync Enterprise Voice into new and existing voice and PBX environments. Sonus SBCs enhance and extend the UC experience in the enterprise, at the branch office and for the mobile workforce. The Sonus SBC hardware portfolio - inclusive of the SBC 5100, SBC 5200, SBC 1000 and SBC 2000 Session Border Controllers - is Microsoft Lync 2013 and 2010 qualified.

Microsoft Lync 2013 and E911

Enhanced 911 is an improvement over the basic 911 that makes service faster and more reliable by requiring 911 systems to automatically display a caller’s information, such as name and location, to the emergency responder. In order to be compliant with E911 regulations, enterprises need to provide accurate location information to 911 service providers to enable them to route the call to the nearest public safety answering point and in turn, facilitate quick and effective handling of the emergency. With Sonus SBCs, Enhanced 911 gives our customers:

  • Microsoft Unified Communications Open Interoperability Program (UCOIP) qualified E911 solution
  • Correctly route 911 emergency calls to the nearest public safety answering point (PSAP)
  • Deliver accurate location information to the emergency responders
  • Meet necessary state and local E911 legislations
  • PSAP call-back support for dropped calls
  • High availability and survivability on WAN connectivity failure designed to support upstream deployments with advanced features that give customers the highest levels of flexibility, scalability, quality of experience (QoE) and investment protection.
