The Sonus network architecture is built around a revolutionary principle: the centralized management of distributed intelligence. In most service provider networks, policy and routing data is managed locally on individual switches; every time data changes on one switch, all the switches in the network need to be updated to maintain consistency. This de-centralized provisioning strategy has proven over time to be costly to maintain, accounting for significant capex/opex overhead. By contrast, our centralized approach simplifies data management by providing a single source for all policy and routing data in the core network. Service providers simply make updates to the master PSX database via standard provisioning interfaces, and those updates are automatically replicated to all of the local PSX servers in the network.
Instead of the islands of intelligence found in most networks, the master PSX server distributes complete network intelligence to every Sonus switch in the network. The result is total intelligence everywhere in the network, providing optimal routing efficiency, unlimited scalability and fail-safe redundancy at a much lower cost per switch.
