Sonus is an early pioneer in providing platforms that converges multiple traffic types onto a single transport network. The Promina 800 Series has provided reliable, resilient transport of voice, video and data applications over traditional TDM-based or ATM-based transport networks for over 20 years. With the introduction of the new IP trunk module, the Promina 800 Series converges legacy applications and services onto an IP-based network.
The NX 1000 is the latest development in the Promina family of products. The NX 1000 provides full Promina functionality and interworking in a rugged, compact chassis.
The NX 1000 leverages the Promina 800 Series technology and actively participates in a Promina network. Customers realize transparent interoperability with their existing networks and services. But the Promina NX 1000 offers much more - a new motherboard design with integrated on-board data storage, on-board IP trunking, on-board high-speed data, and 128Mbps processing capability. The four expansion slots in the new design support the legacy Promina feature modules that are currently used in Promina low speed shelves, allowing for full interchangeability with existing Promina nodes. The architecture also allows two NX 1000 systems to be stacked, providing twice the capacity as well as processor redundancy.
CONVERGING LEGACY SERVICES TO IP
Promina networks have historically carried voice and data services, along with legacy, proprietary or serial data and transported these services across TDM or ATM backbone networks. With the addition of the IP network interface on the Promina platform, legacy services and applications can take advantage of the simplicity and efficiency of IP routing and Ethernet switching.
The NX 1000 takes IP trunking to the next step by integrating it into an all new platform architecture that maintains the Promina network resilience and routing while providing increased bandwidth. The Sonus IP trunking technology provides a robust and reliable connection for bit synchronous traffic by implementing unique queuing and jitter management techniques, as well as clock recovery across the IP network. In addition, the NX 1000 has an integrated rubidium clock module that ensures even greater reliability across diverse networks.
