SONUS NETWORKS APPOINTS STEPHEN J. NILL CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
Seasoned Executive Brings More than 20 Years Experience in Managing High-Tech Finance Operations

WESTFORD, Mass., September 20, 1999 - Sonus Networks, an emerging leader in carrier-class packet telephony solutions, today announced that the company has named industry veteran Stephen J. Nill as its vice president, finance and administration, and chief financial officer. In this role, Nill will direct the financial and administrative functions of the company and build a corporate infrastructure to support rapid growth. Nill will report directly to Sonus president and CEO, Hassan Ahmed.

"Sonus has been committed to building a strong and experienced executive team and Steve's appointment completes the picture," commented Ahmed. "Steve brings to Sonus significant depth in leading the financial operations of high-growth technology companies. We're looking to him to help us move beyond the start-up phase to reach our goal of becoming the leader in the multi-billion dollar market for packet telephony solutions."

"Sonus is well-positioned to be a major player in an important, rapidly growing market," Nill said. "I have great respect for Sonus' management team and their ability to bring innovative technologies to customers. I look forward to working with them to take Sonus to the next level."

Nill comes to Sonus from VideoServer, Inc. (now known as Ezenia!), a leading provider of multimedia communications servers. In five years as vice president of finance and chief financial officer, he directed VideoServer's finances and administrative operations during a period of significant growth. He also led the company's highly successful initial public offering (IPO).

Prior to VideoServer, Nill was with Lotus Development Corporation for six years, primarily as its corporate controller, during a period when Lotus grew rapidly to $1 billion in revenue. Previously, Nill held various financial positions with Computervision, Inc., a supplier of workstation-based software, IBM and Arthur Andersen & Co. Nill holds a BA from New Mexico State University and an MBA from the Harvard Business School. He is also a certified public accountant (CPA).
